Ingredients

for the filling

  • 1 15 oz can tart cherries drained (see note below about fruit selection)
  • 1 lb frozen blackberries
  • 2 medium apples peeled, cored, sliced (one Granny Smith and one Golden Delicious)
  • 3/4 to 1 C sugar
  • 1 T flour heaping
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 t cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • dash of cloves

for the topping

  • 3 oz chopped pecans
  • 3/4 C flour
  • 2 C rolled oats
  • 1 C dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/3 stick unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 t cinnamon or a bit more
  • dash of nutmeg
  • dash of cloves
  • two dashes of salt

Instructions

  • Oven to 350.
  • Combine the filling ingredients and pour into a suitably-sized baking dish. A Fiesta two-quart serving bowl is just right.
  • Combine the topping ingredients and stir until the butter and sugar are incorporated.
  • Pour the topping over the filling and pack lightly.
  • Bake until fruit is tender and bubbly, and the top is lightly browned, about 45 minutes.
